The oil and natural gas drilling industries use pipes finished at their ends with high-precision conical threads in accordance with the applicable standards (API round, API buttress, BDS, VAM, OTTG) or with premium joints.
Modern high-productivity plants for the manufacture of these pipes produce the conical thread by working rigidly clamped pipes with radial facing slides.
The tight tolerances for the thread and sealing surfaces on the pipes demand the highest precision in positioning the slide, particularly under the substantial centrifugal forces arising on the slides at high cutting speeds.
